«Tijuana is ugly» – a comment that made us reflect when talking to visitors from other parts of the world. Rather than taking it as an insult, we, as locals, believe that we have the opportunity to show them the side that, as natives, we see in our daily lives.
We have the chance to share our Tijuana with the world through the magical, interesting, and different places in the city. It’s also important to note that there are foreigners who speak VERY HIGHLY of Tijuana, it’s that magic that locals sometimes overlook.

We wouldn’t want to miss the opportunity to write to you here about what we believe is important to know if you’re just starting to live in Tijuana.
Firstly, the most obvious, Tijuana is located on the busiest border in the world. And although many believe that the best part of Tijuana is San Diego, the reality is that there are many foreigners who think the opposite. An interesting point to highlight about being on the busiest border is that you experience a very different atmosphere compared to other places in the world—life is fast-paced, yet it has its peaceful spots; it’s a hybrid. Besides having almost everything within reach—beach, mountains, nature, the vibe of a big city, and nearby towns.
Secondly, and connected to the previous point, the diversity of people from different parts of the world is impressive, something not widely known about Tijuana. In Tijuana, you can travel the world through its people.
Thirdly, which we believe is important to address, NOT EVERYONE in Tijuana speaks English. There is a significant percentage of people who, although they understand a lot of English, never learned the language. So, bare this in mind, it’s nice for you to try and communicate with locals in Spanish, we do appreciate it.
Fourth, and perhaps a VERY specific point, but living in Tijuana allows you to have the best of both worlds. The flexibility and entertainment of Tijuana and the possibility of having a significant income and tranquility from San Diego. Obviously, you need documentation to cross the border into the United States, but it’s interesting to have that possibility. Although we have met people who, even with the opportunity to visit and work in San Diego, have never needed it while living in Tijuana.
Well, we could keep telling you about the possibilities of living in Tijuana, but it’s better to let THE PEOPLE OF TIJUANA tell you. In our «People of Tijuana» format, we’ll leave you here with a few episodes.
